Services

Electricity

BioPower’s primary service is created by heating organic biomass to over 1000 degrees in an oxygen-free reaction zone inside a pyrolysis reactor. The extreme heat causes the combustion of the cellulose material without open flame boiling the gasses (syngas) out of the material where it is collected, cooled, and piped to flexible fuel gas-fired boilers. The boilers make steam for steam turbines that generate electricity for the power grid.

Land Management

Whether you own timber land, recreational land, or have a reforestation project let BioPower show you how our modern land management service will renew your soil’s ecosystem and maximize crop yield for years to come. Our focus is primarily on timberland due to the abundant amount of non-merchantable logging residues also known as woody biomass. BioPower uses the latest forestry technology to collect the woody biomass from your land using specialized equipment that makes our land preparation far superior to traditional methods. The collected woody biomass is processed at our modern bioenergy facility, converting it into biochar, among other clean, renewable energy byproducts. Biochar, the carbonized waste product of the process, that’s definitely not waste, is made from your collected woody biomass and is then returned to your land as a soil amendment during the land preparation prior to planting. This entire process is carbon sequestration at its best. Now, we didn’t invent biochar–in fact, it’s been around for quite a long time–but the extreme heat from state-of-the-art equipment BioPower uses to process the woody biomass into biochar improves the purity of it dramatically. As a soil amendment, biochar greatly increases crop yield between 70 and 200% due to the carbon’s ability to hold plant nutrients, water, and act as a host environment for microbes. It also reduces the risk of destructive wildfires, insects and disease, and has increased capacity to support wildlife.

Biomass Recycle Yards

BioPower pays you to recycle organic and wood waste at our biomass yards across the Wiregrass area. You can bring us any plant material such as shrubs, limbs, trees etc., or wood waste from construction or dunnage. We offer up to $8 per ton for your biomass, depending on the quality and quantity.
By recycling your biomass with us, you are also helping the environment and fighting climate change. Here is how:

  • We use your biomass to generate renewable energy, reducing the need for fossil fuels.
  • We produce about 120 lbs of biochar per ton of biomass, which is a charcoal-like substance that can store carbon for a long time.
  • We apply the biochar to our carbon removal or avoidance projects, such as enhancing soil fertility and tree growth.
  • We prevent your biomass from decomposing in landfills, where it would release methane, a potent greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.
The carbon content of biomass varies depending on the type and moisture level of the material, but it is typically around 50%. The carbon content of biochar is usually higher, around 70%. The emissions from transportation and processing depend on the distance, fuel efficiency and technology used.

For example, if you bring us one ton (2000 lb) of dry wood waste, and we transport it for 10 miles using a truck that emits 1.5 lb of CO2 per mile, then the GHG removal would be:

GHG removal (lb) = (2000 x 0.5 x 3.67) + (200 x 0.7 x 3.67) – (10 x 1.5) GHG removal (lb) = 3670 + 513.8 – 15 GHG removal (lb) = 4168.8

This means that by recycling one ton of dry wood waste with us, you would remove over two tons of greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere!

BioPower Disposal Service

BioPower offers a comprehensive biomass removal and disposal service to a variety of businesses and individuals. Whether you’re a construction company with a lot to clear, a tree cutting business with trees and limbs, a storm cleanup crew, a business with old pallets or dunnage, or anyone with a large amount of biomass, BioPower can help. We’ll even pay you for your biomass! For 5 tons or more, we offer a competitive rate of $3.50 per ton, minus the pickup fee which is based upon mileage. We also provide roll off dumpsters for biomass only, with fees based on dumpster size (10-40 yards). Special projects for large biomass removal and disposal are also available. Call one of our biomass disposal consultants for assistance, or go online and schedule your biomass removal and disposal.
